I am thrilled to welcome you to the newly redesigned and relaunched Association Forecast!
I have been doing a lot of studying and thinking over the past few years about what the future of non-profit trade associations and professional societies looks like. Based on my research, I have come to believe that society is standing on the edge of radical transformations destined to remake us in countless ways. I am not a pessimist, I believe many of these changes will be beneficial in the long run. However, I am also a realist and change on this magnitude will be fraught with challenges that need to be met head on. It is my sincerely held belief that associations hold the keys to both progress and stabilization. It is the dynamic interaction between those two points of view that demonstrates our real strength as a community.
Many of you know me from the Association Subculture blog and I’m happy you are sticking with me. I’m excited to meet the new folks who join us along the way. Deciding to close down the Subculture was a difficult journey for me. However, the Subculture was my first foray into the blog-o-sphere and had a “generalized” focus on topics pertinent to associations. After months of soul-searching I came to the conclusion that its voice no longer matched where I find myself these days as a professional. My perspective has changed. I wrestled with the idea of just “transforming” the Subculture blog to more accurately reflect this new direction, but in the end decided to leave it up as an archive and move forward into this new frontier.
This blog is dedicated to exploring the future of associations from a few dedicated lenses – technology, education, generations and consciousness. It is my belief, shared with many others, that these systems are all systemically related. We will also blog on gamification and diversity as well as book reviews on important works we believe you will enjoy reading. We are going to go heavily into video as well so stay tuned as we get that portion of the effort underway.
Thanks again for stopping by…I am excited to see what the future is going to bring!
